OUR LAW FIRM
The firm was established in 2011 as an effort to combine the expertise of notarial based law with litigation cases in all areas of civil law.
We developed an in-depth competence in resolving complex inheritance cases, concerning artists estates as well as in cases of international successions.
We thus intervene on behalf of a French or a foreign clientele to provide advice and develop an individualized strategy adapted to each situation in all issues related to civil law. For instance, we deal with:

Inheritance law (out of court settlements or judicial litigations due to shared ownership);

Personal rights (protection of vulnerable adults, filiation, adoption);

Our firm also takes on cases involving penal law and procedure, ensuring the defense of the charged, and of the accused, as well as of the civil parties.

The Ravanas Firm intervenes at any stages whether to anticipate or to deal with the difficulties arising from the sale and division of an estate. We have a thorough knowledge of all applicable tax management.
We act as counselors as well as aides in a litigation.These two facets can indeed fit in the planning of a more comprehensive strategy enabling us to find a solution to situations deemed, at first sight, to be hopeless.
The firm has also developed specific skills to deal with artists inheritance and estate planning in cases when a mentally handicapped person interests are at stake.
The Firm’s expertise covers all areas of estate law, may it concern the sale, taxation, ownership (shared or otherwise), for civil and commercial leases.

Our staff has developed important skills in treating civil liability cases, and more specifically, cases of notarial liability. We thus get involved in a claim or a defense in complex dossiers when professional liability is engaged.

Personal Rights Law
Our firm assists minors and vulnerable adults in the context of initiating protective measures or their follow-up. It also manages the possible litigations arising during the measures implementation.
We have developed a strong expertise in the inheritance laws protecting people suffering intellectual disabilities.
We also take on cases of filiation and adoption, on a national as well as international level.
Family Law
Our firm is highly skilled in dealing with advice and litigations arising in the domain of the art market. This expertise involves inheritance issues as well as complex situations related to the source, the claim and the authenticity of works of art.
We have a solid experience in both civil and penal laws.
Criminal Law
Our firm regularly intercede on behalf of the civil side or of the accused during the whole judicial process, providing legal representation in criminal and higher courts (the Assizes).
In this area of the law, we are experts in ending existing marital planning.
We also treat cases of divorce and separation with a natural propensity for amicable proceedings. This expertise includes the knowledge of the applicable fiscal laws.

EMMANUEL RAVANAS
FOUNDER
Emmanuel RAVANAS began his career as an assistant notary within his family firm in Southern France at Mallemort (Bouches-du-Rhône)
At the same time, in a desire to play a more active role in the defense of his clients, he set his sight on a career in law.
He began his law practice in 2006 as an attorney in the Parisian Real Estate Legal Department of the firm LINKLATERS.
Elected First Secretary of the Seminar Conference in 2010, he had to insure the urgent criminal defense of many persons. He was at the root of the “Question Prioritaire de Constitutionnalité” (The Constitutional Right of Representation Question) voted on July 30th, 2010 (Ruling number2010-14/22) which enabled the legislative reform requiring the presence of an attorney in instances of police custody.
This experience led him to go his separate way in 2011 to create Ravanas Attorneys.
Given his expertise in notarial cases and his knowledge in the field of civil as well as criminal law, he focused his firm’s specialty on the very specific area of inheritance litigation. This led him to intervene in all matters linked to notarial laws.
Emmanuel teaches Law as it applies to marital planning and Inheritance in a specialty concentration for Masters in “International Wealth Management” at ESCP Europe, as well as Notarial Law, at Paris II University.
He regularly offers courses at the Quebec Formative School for the Bar to attorneys in training. Emmanuel is a licensed attorney in Quebec since 2016.
In addition to his career as a lawyer, Emmanuel Ravanas is involved in various compassionate projects. For instance, he and some friends started the association “Reach Out” www.tendrelamain.org).
This association, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in January 2018, has undertaken several projects in Madagascar, and it continues to dedicate itself to improving the local population’s standard of living. For the most part, it helps in creating schools and clinics, in improving water distribution networks and sanitation, and in building sports facilities.
He is also on the board of directors of Emmaus Défi, an organization seeking solutions to combat social exclusion. This organization offers jobs to salaried students in training, as well as a full personalized guidance.

ROBINSON LADREIT DE LACHARRIÈRE
ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY
Robinson LADREIT DE LACHARRIÈRE has been a licensed Parisian attorney since April 2013.
He began his practice as an associate attorney for the NEUER Firm, working on complex cases involving the art market and commercial litigations.
He then spent a year in London to study International Arbitration.
He joined our firm as an associate in October 2016.

MARIE-ALIX VILLEBRUN
JURIST
Graduated with a Master II in Notary Law, as well as a specialised Master in International Wealth Management from ESCP Business School, Marie-Alix VILLEBRUN graduated as notary (Diplôme Supérieur du Notariat).
She trained as a notary for several years in the South of France where she developped an expertise in inheritance law.
She joined our firm in 2017 and uses, since that, her experience of notarial practice.
Her attentiveness and her rigor lead her today to deal with complex and international inheritance cases as well as cases with inheritance and non-patrimonial dimensions. Marie-Alix has also developed an interest for all matters of civil procedure.
She teaches law and in particular marital planning and inheritance to the specialised Master "International Wealth Management" at ESCP Business School.

HONORARIUM
Our rates conform to the 31st of December 1971- Law number 1130, which was followed by the November 27th, 1991 - number 1197, and the July 12th, 2005 - number 790 - decrees. They thus comply with the allowable freedom of establishing an honorarium. Our fee is fixed through a bilateral agreement between us and our client.
In accordance with the rules governing the profession, our office is bound to our client by a fee agreement which secure our intervention and billing terms.
Several factors are included in determining the amount of our honorarium such as the time spent and/or the complexity of the case.
Our time is evaluated on an hourly basis agreed upon with our client right from the start. Certain separate charges may apply depending on the rank of the person intervening in the case.
For long and complex cases, a lawyer-client agreement may be negotiated stating that the attorney’s remuneration will be deducted in part from the final settlement.
Our fees are determined independently from the possible extra charges such as the expenses arising from speaking, keeping a file, phone or written correspondence bills, or travel expenses.
In addition, French taxes are applicable at rates reaching 20% (TVA), except in special cases.
